The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has joined Nigerians in commemorating the 2026 Workers’ Day, describing workers as the backbone of national development and key drivers of the country’s progress.
In his May 1 message, Issa-Onilu noted that the occasion offers an opportunity to reflect on the dignity of labour and recognise the vital role workers play in nation-building. He acknowledged that their daily sacrifices continue to sustain the nation’s economy.
He praised the resilience, dedication, unity, and unwavering commitment of workers across both public and private sectors, emphasising that their contributions remain essential to Nigeria’s growth despite ongoing economic and social challenges.
According to the NOA boss, Nigeria is at a critical stage in its development journey, requiring increased productivity, discipline, and a renewed focus on excellence from all citizens to achieve sustainable prosperity.
Issa-Onilu called on workers to recommit themselves to the values of hard work, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that these principles are crucial not only for personal success but also for national advancement.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to driving national transformation through positive attitudinal change, urging Nigerians to embrace a culture that rewards diligence, innovation, and accountability.
The DG also advised citizens to shun indolence, corruption, and inefficiency, which he identified as major obstacles to development and progress in key sectors.
Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, Issa-Onilu said the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda would continue to translate into improved welfare, stronger institutions, and a more enabling environment for productivity.
