A socio-cultural organization, Riverside CountryHome, has lauded Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for pledging N1 billion to restore electricity to Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, ending years of prolonged power outage that has hindered socio-economic development in the area.
Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District and is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, announced the intervention during a strategic meeting with political leaders and community stakeholders in the local government area.
The electrification project, which is expected to commence within the next three weeks, has generated excitement among residents and community leaders who have endured over 17 years without a stable power supply.
Reacting to the development, President of Riverside CountryHome, Baaroyin Dayo Rufai, described the N1 billion commitment as a landmark intervention capable of transforming the fortunes of the area.
According to him, the absence of electricity for nearly two decades has negatively impacted businesses, education, healthcare delivery, and general economic activities across the local government.
“This intervention is a welcome development and a major relief for our people. We appreciate Senator Adeola for responding to the yearnings of the people. We urge residents to cooperate fully with engineering teams and relevant authorities to ensure the successful implementation of the project within the stipulated timeline,” Rufai said.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the organization, Mr. Adebowale Sunday, commended the APC governorship candidate for the initiative and expressed optimism that electricity would soon be restored to communities across the local government area.
He, however, called on indigenes and residents to take ownership of the project by providing adequate security for workers and infrastructure to prevent vandalism and ensure its sustainability.
Community leaders and residents have continued to express optimism that the intervention will finally bring an end to years of darkness and stimulate economic growth, improve living conditions, and attract new investments to Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
The planned project is expected to mark a significant milestone in efforts to address critical infrastructure challenges and improve the quality of life for residents of the riverine local government area.
