Bus Presentation: Chapel Commends Council Chairman, Senator Adeola, Seeks More Development For Ogun NUJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun-East Independent Chapel, has congratulated the Ogun State Council Chairman, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, on the successful realisation of a major commitment made by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to the Union.

The Chapel described the presentation of a brand-new 18-seater Toyota HiAce bus to the Ogun NUJ as a significant milestone and a development that demonstrates the value of purposeful engagement between the leadership of the Union and stakeholders who recognise the importance of journalism to society.

The bus was presented to the Ogun NUJ following Senator Adeola's earlier engagement with the Union at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, where he placed his proposed development agenda before journalists and specifically pledged continued support for the NUJ.

During the engagement, Adeola had also challenged journalists to hold him accountable for commitments made before them, stressing that the media should document government promises and return to ask questions about their implementation.

The subsequent presentation of the bus has therefore given practical expression to one of the commitments made during that engagement.

The NUJ Ogun-East Independent Chapel particularly commended Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju for his leadership and for using the platform of the State Council to articulate the needs of journalists and the institutional requirements of the Union.

According to the Chapel in a statement signed by its chairman Comrade Oluseun Oduneye and Secretary, Comrade Funmilayo Suleodu noted that the acquisition of the bus is not merely about providing a vehicle but about strengthening the operational capacity of the NUJ to attend to its responsibilities, facilitate official movements, support programmes and improve the mobility of journalists across Ogun State.

The Chapel also acknowledged Senator Adeola for responding to the identified need and for fulfilling the commitment made to the Union.

It recalled that during the interaction with the NUJ, the Senator described the media as a partner in progress and stated that the relationship between government and journalists should extend beyond reporting activities to include monitoring promises and performance.

For the Ogun East Independent Chapel, the development further underscores the importance of the NUJ leadership maintaining constructive engagement with individuals, institutions and stakeholders whose interventions can contribute to the growth and effectiveness of journalism.

The Chapel therefore congratulated Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju and the entire Ogun NUJ family on the milestone achievement, while appreciating Senator Adeola for the gesture.

It expressed the hope that the new bus would be put to effective use in advancing the activities of the Union and enhancing the working environment of journalists across the state.

The Chapel also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the leadership of the Ogun State Council in initiatives that promote the welfare, professional development and institutional strength of journalists in Ogun State.
